Fun facts.
Killer whale:
The unique color pattern of killer whales serves as a type of camouflage, breaking up their overall shape in the water so they don't look so big to other marine animals!
Killer whales live in groups called pods that range in size from roughly 5-30 individuals. Pods usually include a mix of younger and older whales.
Everyone has their place in a whale pod, but female whales tend to be the leaders!
Killer whales are among the fastest swimming marine mammals - reaching speeds up to about 30 miles per hour (48kph)!
Sea turtles:
Sea turtles live in tropical and temperate marine environments throughout the world.
Sea turtles spend almost their entire lives in the ocean. In fact, the only time they usually go on land is when females lay their eggs.
A sea turtle cannot hide in its shell like a freshwater turtle or terrestrial tortoise can.
Sea turtles are strong swimmers and divers...some swimming across entire ocean basins and others diving up to a few thousand feet below the surface!
Sea turtle species are in trouble, primarily due to human influence, and are in need of your help!
Rays:
Rays are more closely related to sharks than any other creature in the sea.
Among the best-known rays are stingrays, which have long, slim, whip-like tails armed with protective spines.
The wingspan of the largest ray species - the manta ray - can reach 20 feet (6.1 m) from tip to tip.
Many rays bury themselves in sand along the ocean bottom, hiding from potential predators such as sharks and dolphins.
