Rice makes the world go ' round.
Originating in China in 2800 BC, today there are over 40,000 varieties of rice grown worldwide. From long grain to basmati to jasmine, rice is the second highest worldwide production crop, behind corn, with over 700 million tons produced annually! That's a lot of rice!
For our Japanese-Style Fried Rice, we chose long grain white rice for its delicate texture and versatility to go well with a wide variety of Asian meals.
Under the Chinese ming dynasty, rice was hidden in the limestone used to build city walls because it added stability and strength.
Did you know:
There's a reason why rice is thrown at weddings! It's tradition to throw rice at newlyweds because rice is thought to be associated with fertility and good fortune.
